Hello Summer!

June is just around the corner which means that schools are winding down, temperatures are heating up, and summer activities are about to be in full swing. As a counselor I look at summer as an open opportunity to create new and fun approaches to counseling. My latest project has been creating a teen group for girls. Summer is a GREAT time to create groups and get your clients involved in them. Clients and families tend to have more flexibility during the summer due to school being out, so their flexibility allows for us as counselors to have more flexibility in setting up groups.

My goal in creating this girls teen group is to allow girls to have a safe place to explore different topics and obsticles they may be facing. Middle school and high school can be full of a lot of changes for teen girls, and having a safe place for them to process these changes with not just a counselor but with girls their own age can make a world of difference. Each week my plan is to open up with a different topic, including peer relationships, social media safety, and self-esteem.

Sometimes talking one-on-one with a therapist may be daunting to teens, so a group setting allows for them to experience the benefits of counseling along side girls their own age. Being apart of a group may also allow for girls to have an outlet with their peers while school is out during the summer.

I absolutely love running groups, so I am excited to start this new one in June! If you know of anyone interested, please feel free to refer to our flyer and reach out to me!

Happy Summer!
